AT&T is now offering 1 gigabit connection in parts of the Wilmington area

AT&T is now offering Internet service starting with a 1 gigabit connection on its 100% fiber network powered by AT&T FiberSM to customer locations in parts of the Wilmington area.

The Wilmington area is one of 53 metros nationwide where the ultra-fast internet service is currently available. The plan is to reach at least 75 metros with the fastest Internet service.

In addition to the homes and small businesses connected to our 100% fiber network in the Wilmington area, we connect area apartment and condo properties, such as River Lights, Woodridge Pointe and the Village at Mayfair. The operator plans to expand access the ultra-fast internet speeds in parts of Leland in the future.

Today AT&T offers a 1 gigabit connection to 4.6 million locations across 53 metros. The expectations are to add 2 million locations in 2017, and to reach at least 12.5 million locations by mid-2019.

“High-speed internet has quickly become a preferred way to access information and communicate,” said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo. “I am glad to see this investment from AT&T, and am certain that the increased ability to tout Wilmington’s connectivity to fiber internet further strengthens the reputation of our community.”

AT&T Internet 1000, is the fastest internet speed on the 100% fiber network. It is offered at $70 per month for customers who bundle with other AT&T service on a single bill. Or only $80 per month standalone.

Either way, there are no extra monthly fees and equipment is included with a 12-month agreement. Customers are also able to add our award-winning DIRECTV or U-verse TV service as well.

AT&T has invested nearly $1.8 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in North Carolina between 2014 through 2016. This drives upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.
